What? Forgive Them?

Words has power. It has the power to kill and it has the power to destroy. It has the power to encourage and it has the power to discourage. Nevertheless, many of us has become the fruit of the wrong words spoken against us. And while I know that there were sweet words that has been spoken to us by the same person who also shot us on the inside, satan deceived us by making us believe that his lies are truths. Our minds are trained to think the negative, our tongue trained to confess the worst experiences and our hearts bent to believe the enemy’s deception. We become a keeper of insults. We defend every accusation. We react to every ridicule and mockery. We harbor bitterness and grudges. We keep score of who frequently asks sorry. As a result, satan has been successful in making us become a victim of our circumstances.

Jesus went through all these:

■ He was disowned by His close friend.
   (Luke 2:60-62)

■ He was insulted.
   (Luke 22:65)

■ He was ridiculed.
   (Luke 23:11)

■ He was mocked.
   (Luke 23:11)

■ He was convicted for death penalty with no grounds to prove His
    crime. (Luke 23:22)

Yet, even then, Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing (Luke 23:34).

Jesus experienced the extremes beyond what we went through in this life. His life on earth wasn’t a luxurious life after all but “He endured the cross, disregarding it’s shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne (Hebrews 12:12).

I don’t know why you have that suffering.

I don’t know why you have to go through that pain.

I don’t know why you have to experience betrayal.

I don’t know why you have to be spoken with those words you don’t deserve.

But this I know, Jesus loves you and it’s Him who sustains you. He went to great lengths to die for you. He shed His blood for you.

Don’t be offended at God. Don’t be offended that you don’t have an answer yet.

Listen! My mother died when I was 8 years old at the very day of my birthday. My brother and sisters did not have an experience of what it is to have a mother. I don’t get it but I don’t need to understand everything. I just know, that on the inside of me, Jesus held my family together.

Friends, don’t withhold forgiveness. Release that person who hurt you and be secure enough that the One who created the Universe, the One who flung the stars in place has you in the palm of His hands. Turn the situation around and speak life instead of declaring curses over people who hurt you.

Romans 8:38-39 says;
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God (Eph 3:16-19).
